The History of Candy

The cavemen started the idea of having a sweet treat when they would eat the honey right out of the beehive. Later honey would be used in confections with nuts and fruits that the Egyptians would prepare.
Candy making took off in the mid 1800’s when over 380 factories in the US were making loose ‘penny candies’, the sweets found in large glass jars in local stores and sold in bulk.
Candy is simply sugar, water and flavorings. Depending on the degree of heat used when cooking you get different kind of candies. Low temperatures are for making chewy ones while high temperatures will produce hard candies.
