Building a Vegetable Garden

Here is a great way to build a brand new vegetable garden without digging up the existing space.

Supplies needed:

  • Garden bed edging
  • Newspaper
  • Garden soil
  • Mulch

Installation:

Step 1: Mow the area where you plan to put your garden as low as your mower can.

Step 2: Using your edging material create the shape and size of the plot you wish to plant.

Step 3: Lay down newspaper.  This will break down and create a great compost for the soil.

Step 4: Begin adding your garden soil.  Here I added it to the two sides leaving an empty strip down the middle.

Step 5: Add you mulch to the strip down the middle.  This makes a great pathway and helps to retain water.

Step 6: Plant!

Very simple and as years past the ground underneath gets more composted and looser.

  1. Great tutorial, you make it look so easy! I've never tried the newspaper layer, that would sure help me keep the rubbish bins at bay!
