Saturday I got to spend the day with super cute twin boys who were celebrating their 2nd birthday.  Once again creativity ruled the day.  My boyfriends sister created not one but two absolutely amazing toy truck cakes for the birthday boys.   And she can contest that it’s not as easy as it looks.  

One of the cakes got devoured by the guests at the party while the second one got to go home as a keep sake.

I would also like to mention the twins dad was particualrily creative that day as well creating this fabulous masterpiece of fruit.

I spent the day with a couple of little people yesterday.  One of them was celebrating their 6th birthday and instead of making a cake for her I decided that we would make and decorate cupcakes together.

They each had their own bowl and whisk.

The directions called for an electric mixer but they were doing great on their own. 

Pouring the mix into the muffin cups got a little messy. Nothing that couldn’t be cleaned.

I think they turned out great!!!

I completely got to see first hand an example of the expression “kid in a candy store”.  A trip to the bulk barn resulted in these many options.

Icing the cupcakes started out well.

And ended with a little flavour combinations.

Both girls had very distinct decorating techniques.

One was very detailed oriented. (a little girl after my heart)

While the other was more about quantity. (nothing wrong with that)

The girls had a whole lot of fun decorating 8 different cupcakes each.

How did we know who’s were what?  Quite ingenious really.

One always used a gummy worm.

The other always had a cookie!

And did I, The Tasty Gardener, decorate anything.  Absolutely!

Did you expect anything less?

Another member of my family is equally talented when it comes to creating a cake masterpiece. My sister-in-law Karen created this Strawberry Shortcake Cake to celebrate my nieces’ 4^th birthday.

She also made some treats for the grown-ups too. They both tasted great.?á I should know. I had both!

Chocolate and Vanilla Cupcakes

I have to send out props to my boyfriend’s sister Lisa for this outstanding birthday cake she made for her mom. Lisa is an outstanding artist and her creativity has definitely spilled over into the baking world. She used a from-scratch recipe that tasted as amazing as it looks.
